Greek port checks no longer needed for UTL holders – June News from UK Cruising Association.

After extensive lobbying by the CA, the Greek government has finally changed the rules to make life easier for owners of EU-VAT-paid boats with a non EU flag.

Vessels with an Unlimited Transit Log (UTL) no longer need to check in and check out of every Greek port. The change has immediate effect.

Non-EU vessels will still have to get a Transit Log on arrival in Greece by applying to Customs on arrival, but those that can demonstrate the status of Union Goods (EU-VAT-paid) can obtain a UTL – and work by the CA to make this process easier is continuing. Vessels that are not Union Goods will be given a limited Transit Log for 18 months and must still check in and out as before.

This change is very significant and the CA is grateful for the prompt action of the Minister for Shipping and Islands Policy for recognising the need for this change and taking action. Thanks are due to Nigel Cuthbert and a Greek CA member for their extensive campaigning on this topic. The change would have been unlikely without their lobbying on behalf of the CA, and it reinforces the benefits of CA membership.
